FAQs
Read through our most frequently asked questions, or give us a ring on 01675 465462.
What is a cornice?
In architecture, cornices are decorative elements that give the building façade protection. Traditionally, they protrude from the wall face, which is why the term is also often applied to other elements, like architraves and mouldings (which sit atop doorways/windows and internal walls, respectively).
Do modern houses have cornices?
Yes. While cornices are more noticeable on Victorian homes, which are elaborate, modern homes have more restrained cornices. That’s why our products come in our 1, 2, and 3 tiers, with 90° angles.
Will I need other materials to install the cornice?
If you have a host wall and a gutter return, you’ll need a treated timber baton.
Do you have any tips for installing Ultraframe cornices?
- We recommend you start your cornice installation after fitting the basic roof but before installing glazing and guttering.
- Make sure that the eaves beam joints are tight before installing the cornices to avoid gaps translating through to the mitres.
- For the best mitre fit, try to fix the lower cornice sections. Don’t forget that the lower cornice section is the datum.
- Cleats are only used to position the mitre joints. Don’t force them.
